Nudibranchs, like the Spanish Shawl (Flabellinopsis iodinea) are hermaphroditic, which means that they are simultaneously male and female. When mating, they perform a courtship “dance” and eventually connect their gonopores, which are positioned on the right side of their bodies close to their heads. The dominant nudibranch inseminates their partner, leaving it with the energetic responsibility of producing a ribbon-like egg mass.
